Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field first in the must win important match against the top performer India against Pakistan  days earlier at Edgbaston.

The batting favorite India took good start but failed to do as pare in the last seven overs. the target of 322 was set for Sri Lanka in which major contribution was putted by Dhawan (125) with first Ton of India in ICC CT17. Sharma's 78 and MS Dhni's on 62 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes was the best effort of the match.

Sri lank who was very slow in chasing and lost first wicket on 11 but than no look back and the 2nd wicket partnership was about 159 runs between Gunathleka (76) and Mandis (89) . Gunathelka back to pavilion with run out on yadive and Dhni on 76. the nest bat in was perrera who played brilliantly and off the crease because of injury and retired heart on 47. Anglew Methews (52) with Gunnaratne (34) undefeated;y made the match for Sri Lanka with winning short of 4 runs. The match win made not only Sri Lanka in good position and alive for Semis race but also put the pressure on Pakistan who lost to India but won against South Africa.

 Now the remaining two matches of this group will be the quarter finals. India will face South Africa on 11th June at Oval while Pakistan will face Sri Lanka at Cardiff on 12th June 2017.
